Karaikal Port maintains watch on channel 69 and 16 (H24)

A) Vessels with arrival draft more than 12.7 mtrs are normally berthed in daylight high water time only.

B) Vessels with draft less than 12.7 mtrs are normally berthed at any state of tide in daylight hours only.

The weather is generally hot and humid except from mid December to mid February when it is pleasant.

The rains (N E monsoons) are experienced from October to mid December. Some rain is experienced during the Indian SW monsoons (July - September)

From May to November depressions are known to develop in the Bay of Bengal which brings rains and stormy weather to Karaikal.

Chennai is the nearest international airport, which is about 350 kms away from Karaikal

Karaikal being a private port,cargo operations may not be affected during holidays.

Working hours here is about 20- 22 hours per day as against about 16 - 18 hours at other major ports.

CAUTION:

All Ships are requested to approach the Karaikal Port Anchorage / Pilot Boarding Ground from (at-least) Seven Nautical Miles East of the Fairway Buoy only. This is to avoid or minimize any damages to congested fishing activities. Any damages to the property or life of Fishermen, concerned vessel owner or the vessel agent will be asked to compensate such loss prior sailing of vessel from Karaikal Port.

Please note, Port Clearance will not be issued to those vessels causing such damages and fails to provide such compensation. In general, advise all the Navigating Officers to navigate with extreme caution and keep well clear of all the fishing vessels and their property throughout the vessel's approaches to Karaikal Port, the same is applicable even for out-bound vessels from Karaikal Port.

Every vessel must have statutory registration with Customs prior to or on arrival. Vessels leaving port have to seek Port Clearance from Customs. Master has to declare all the Store List (Deck, Engine, Provision and Bonded) , Currency Declaration. Bond Stores sealed by the Customs till the vessel sail out from the Port.

Vessels should have all the relevant and valid Certificates on board including Cargo and Loose Gear Certificates.
